ROOS M (1998) Goshawk Accipiter gentilis catches Long-eared Owl Asio otus from nest. LIMOSA 71 (4): 166-166.

In March 1998 an occupied nest of a Long-eared Owl Asia otas was found in the Praambos, Zuidelijk Flevoland. The nest was situated at 6 m height in a tree close to the forest edge. During a visit in the afternoon (14h30) of 5 May, an adult male Goshawk Accipiter gentilis was seen hitting the adult female owl on the nest, attacking from the left front side. With the owl in his claws the Goshawk tumbled to the ground. When the observer came closer, the Goshawk flew away and the owl could be picked up. She did not seem to be badly hurt and could be released after a few minutes.
