Spaans A.L., Holthuizen A.M.A. & de Jong B.H.J. (1978) Spatial distribution and food of ducks in the coastal area of Surinam. ARDEA 66 (1-2): 24-31
Spatial distribution of 5 species of ducks and food of 3 of them were studied in coastal swamps in Suriname to examine how the species are segregated ecologically. The Fulvous Whistling duck and the Muscovy duck were segregated from the other species by habitat selection. The White-cheeked Pintail and Blue-winged Teal occurred in the same areas as the Black-bellied Whistling-Duck, but differed from this species in habitat choice and main foods. White-cheeked Pintails and Blue-winged Teal generally preferred the same habitats and mostly ate the same plant foods, but differed in the main types of animal food taken.
