Summers R.W. & Smith S.M. (1983) The diet of the Knot (Calidris canutus) on rocky shores of eastern Scotland in winter. ARDEA 71 (1): 151-153
Knots eat mainly littorinids and Mytilus edulis on the rocky shores of eastern Scotland. Numerically, spat mussels predominate in diet in late winter once the spat settles. Prior to this, littorinids and older mussels are taken. The presence of Rissoa in the diet indicates that the diet is collected from small algae as well as rock.
