Cadée G.C. (1985) Some data on seabird abundance in Indonesian waters, July/August 1984. ARDEA 73 (2): 183-188
Small numbers of inshore seabirds were observed in the Java Sea; their numbers decreasing with the distance from land. Stations in the Indian Ocean had more species and seabird numbers increased with distance from land. In the Banda Sea variation in seabird abundance was large. One rich area with Brown Boobies, Red-footed Boobies and Great Frigate birds was present around the breeding island of Manuk. Another rich area was found between Irian Jaya and the Aru and Kai Islands where numerous migrating Wilson's Storm Petrels were observed. This migratory route is probably favoured as a result of the area's high biological productivity and enhanced food availability in frontal zones formed at the edge of lower salinity Arafura Sea Water.
