de Vries G.A. (1955) Witkopeenden, Oxyura leucocephala (Scop.), op het IJsselmeer bij Huizen (N.H.). ARDEA 43 (4): 289-292
Two White-headed Ducks (Oxyura leucocephala) in female plumage were observed on the IJsse1meer near Huizen (N.H.) on November 26-28, and again on December 10-11, 1955. The observations probably refer to the same birds. The birds could easily be recognized by their long and dark, bristly tail and their peculiar head-design with dark longitudinal streak on the cheeks. The bill was dark grey and conspicuously swollen. At least 12 observers have confirmed the identification. This observation makes a total number of 5 records of the White-headed Duck in the Netherlands, the third and fore-last record dating from 1913. Three records are from late November, one is from December and one from March.
