WAL CA VAN DER (1987) Short contributions: Ivory Gull Pagophila eburnea observed at Schiermonnikoog. LIMOSA 60 (2): 85-85.

On 9 February 1987 a first-winter Ivory Gull Pagophila eburnea was observed and photographed (fig. 1) on the North Sea beach, which was at that moment full of ice, of the Wadden Sea island of Schiermonnikoog (Fr.). The bird was eating from the body of a dead Eider Somateria mollissima and not shy. If this observation will be accepted by the Dutch Rarities Committee, the species will be an addition to the Dutch List. Three earlier records (one in the 19th century, two in the present one, CNA 1970) have been rejected later on (Kist & Tekke 1979, van IJzendoorn & de Heer 1985).
