AERTS MAPA & SPAANS AL (1987) Habitat choice of feeding Rooks Corvus frugilegus in SE. Drenthe. LIMOSA 60 (3): 123-128.

This paper presents the results of a study on the utilization offeeding grounds by Rooks in SE. Drenthe in 198384 (fig. I). Throughout the year Rooks fed mainly on one or two field types (fig. 2, appendix). In all seasons pastures were most intensively used. In summer, Rooks concentrated on pastures with a relatively high groundwater table (fig. 3). During the breeding season adult Rooks fed for themselves to a large extent on sown grain, for their young nearly exclusively on pastures for invertebrates. In autumn, stubbles and ploughed fields were also important as feeding grounds. During frost spells Rooks fed almost exclusively in fields where fluid organic manure had been sprayed.
