VOGEL RL & WAL, R VAN DER (1988) Short contributions: Occurrence of the Spotted Crake Porzana porzana along the river IJssel in 1987. LIMOSA 61 (1): 45-45.

Spotted Crake Porzana porzana forelands (106 km2 along the lowland river IJssel (Gelderland and Overijssel) was studied. In May and June, only some Spotted Crakes were found. During the second half of June an inundation of the river forelands took place. After the water dropped, marshy pastures remained. In the second half ofJuly, especially from 14 up to 17 July, quite a lot of male Spotted Crakes were located, spending the entire night uttering their advertising call. A total number of 57 territories was located, the whole population was estimated at at least 70-100. In years without an influx the numbers are less, 5-30. Most of the territories were found in marshy pastures or wet sites covered with sedges, some in reed beds.
