DIRECTIE NMF (1989) Population recovery of Rook Corvus frugilegus in the Netherlands. LIMOSA 62 (1): 11-14.

Common Raven Corvus corax After 1950, the numbers of Rooks in the Netherlands declined with 80% up to over 10 000 nests in 1970. After a ban on certain seed dressings in 1969 and possibly also the ban on shooting in 1977, the population recovered, albeit at first rather slowly (tab. I, fig. I). The total population in 1970, 1975, 1980, and 1985 was estimated at II 000, 12 000, 21 000, and 30 000 breeding pairs, respectively. The numbers of colonies also increased, but not as fast as the numbers of nests (tab. 2). In the 1950s and 1960s, the Rook disappeared nearly completely in the western part of the Netherlands, while in the eastern part a strong decline took place. After 1970, a recovery took mainly place in the eastern part (fig. 2). In the western part no recolonization was noticed.
