SPEK V VAN DER, J DUINDAM & T VAN SCHIE (2008) First breeding record of Grey wagtail Motacilla cinerea in the provence of Zuid-Holland. LIMOSA 81 (3): 92-93.

The Grey Wagtail breeds in small numbers in The Netherlands, mainly in the easternmost and southernmost parts of the country. The population is increasing and since the 1990s breeding records outside these core areas have become more frequent. In 2006 and 2007, breeding was established for the first time in the Province of Zuid-Holland in the West of the country, when a pair successfully raised broods in a sluice door. This was followed by an additional pair holding a territory at Katwijk in 2007. Possibly, in the early 1990s, a pair had already established a territory for three years in the city of Leiden. A few large cities elsewhere in The Netherlands have also recently been colonized by breeding Grey Wagtails.
