VAN ELS P (2022) A first introduction in systematics and taxonomy of birds. LIMOSA 95 (4): 196-206.

An introduction to our current knowledge on systematics an taxonomy is provided. The article explains terms such as systematics and taxonomy, topics such as species concepts, tool for systematics, recent changes in phylogenetic trees are discussed. As examples, two problematic Dutch taxonomic groups are treated, the redpollcomplex (Acanthis flammea, cabaret, hornemanni) and Bean Goose complex (Anser fabalis, serrirostris, brachyrhynchus).
