BREMER P (1995) Breeding habitat of the Common Gull Larus canus in the Noordoostpolder. LIMOSA 68 (3): 97-101.

In The Netherlands, the Common Gull is a breeding bird of the coastal area. Breeding on arable fields is exceptional. This was studied in the Noordoostpolder, where, which harbour c. 80% of these populations. less than five pairs per year nested during 1968-76, 2030 pairs in 1977-85, and up to 63 pairs post-1985. Breeding was restricted to light clayey soils in the western part of the polder. Most nests were located among potatoes and sugar beets. After having bred at a site for a number of years, gulls sometimes abandon it, but may return there years later. Internest distance in colonies averaged 63 m ##### Common Gull Larus canus canus
