WINDEN J VAN DER (1995) Short contributions: Lake Frog Rana ridibunda eats downy young of Black Tern Chlidonias niger. LIMOSA 68 (4): 164-165.

Black Tern Chlidonias niger A Lake Frog was observed sitting on the nest of a Black Tern near Utrecht, The Netherlands on 20 July 1995 at 21.00 a.m.. One of the adult terns nervously flew over the frogs' head without attacking it. From previous visits this nest was known to have a clutch of two eggs likely to have hatched on about this day. The frog was caught rather easily and a recently hatched young of a Black Tern could be taken out of its throat. It was established that the frog had eaten the other young as well from faeces it produced later. The Lake Frog measured 8.9 cm and weighed 65 g (after 17 hours fasting and defecation)which is not as big as they can grow maximally in The Netherlands
